How it works
Structured extraction from the public record
Thema reads UK filings and hiring signals continuously, assembles a sector graph, and ranks the companies that exhibit the structural characteristics of a deal-ready target.
Request accessStep 1: Ingestion
What Thema reads from the public record
Every UK company leaves a structural trace. Thema reads four categories of public data continuously, without manual intervention.
Filings are parsed, not scraped
Thema processes structured filing data from Companies House directly, extracting revenue bands, employee counts, SIC codes, and director networks without relying on keyword heuristics.
Hiring signals are normalised
Job postings are classified by function and seniority. Sudden growth in commercial and finance roles is a materially different signal from general headcount growth, and the model treats them accordingly.
Ownership structures are mapped
PSC data lets Thema trace beneficial ownership, identify founder-held versus PE-backed positions, and flag the ownership structures most likely to be receptive to a transaction.
Step 2: Structuring
How the sector graph is assembled
Individual filing records are resolved into entities, linked by shared directors and ownership chains, and classified into the sector's competitive sub-segments.
Step 3: Scoring
How targets are ranked
Each company in the sector graph is scored on four independent dimensions. The twelve highest-ranked companies represent the targets a deal team would typically surface after three weeks of calls.
Revenue band progression over three years of filings, corroborated by headcount growth and payroll index changes. Companies growing at the margin of a size threshold score higher.
Simultaneous growth in commercial, finance, and HR hiring predicts a company preparing to transact. The signal is scored relative to sector-level baseline hiring rates.
Companies with simple beneficial ownership structures and founder-held positions that have not previously transacted are weighted more heavily. Complex group structures discount the score.
Market sub-segment positioning relative to identified sub-segment leaders. Companies occupying defensible niches within a growing sub-segment score above those in fragmented commodity positions.
Step 4: Output
What a completed sector map contains
